The new Chairperson of the African Union is visiting Mogadishu.

A delegation led by the new Chairperson of the African Union, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, arrived in Mogadishu today, his first visit to Somalia as a member of the African Union since his election, and was given a warm welcome at Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Somali Government, Saleh Ahmed Jama, welcomed the delegation led by the Chairperson of the African Union, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, to Aden Adde Airport, and was also present at the airport. Members of the Cabinet and officials of the AUSSOM mission in Somalia were also present.

The Chairperson of the African Union, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, who was elected in early February 2025, will hold important meetings with the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, who will discuss important issues for Somalia and the African Union.

Somalia played a major role in the election of the new Chairperson of the African Union, who previously served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti.

His visit demonstrates the special importance the President attaches to Somalia, which has just begun a new mission to stabilize and restore peace in Somalia.
