The first American plane carrying immigrants from the United States to Cuba has landed at the Guantanamo Bay prison.

President Donald Trump wants to detain more than 30,000 immigrants who are in the United States illegally.

According to a US official, it is the first step expected to increase the number of migrants sent to the US Navy base in Cuba, which for decades was used to detain foreigners linked to the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said additional troops have arrived at the prison in recent days to help detain immigrants who are being apprehended in the United States.

On the other hand, Amy Fischer, director of Refugee and Immigrant Rights at Amnesty International USA, denied that immigrants in the United States should be used as a prison in Guantanamo.

“Sending immigrants to Guantanamo is a cruel move. It will cut people off from lawyers, family and support systems, throwing them into a black hole so the US government can continue to violate their human rights,” Fischer said in a statement.

However, seven flights with immigrants from the United States have already been sent to the countries of Ecuador, Guam, Honduras and Peru.
