A tripartite meeting between the presidents of Eritrea, Egypt and Somalia was held recently in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea.

The meeting started immediately after the arrival of Egyptian President Abdulfattah Al-Sisi in Asmara a few hours ago, while Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived there yesterday evening.

The tripartite meeting that is currently going to the presidents of Eritrea, Egypt and Somalia will discuss regional cooperation and the stability of the Red Sea waterway, according to a brief statement issued by the Somali Presidency.

This meeting comes at the same time as the diplomatic tension between Somalia and Ethiopia is intensifying as a result of the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland at the beginning of this year, which is to give Ethiopia a part of Somalia’s waters, in exchange for which Somaliland recognizes it as an independent state.

Reliable reports related to the meeting opened for the leaders of Eritrea, Egypt and Somalia state that the three presidents will establish a tripartite alliance that unites them.

The foreign ministers of these countries are also on their way to a special meeting, and it is expected that a statement will be issued at the end of the tripartite meeting in Asmara.
