The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has arrived in Asmara, Eritrea, on an official visit where he will meet his country’s counterpart, Isaias Afwerki.

The President was welcomed at the airport in Asmara by the President of Eritrea, Mr. Isaias Afwerki and members of the Eritrean government.

The purpose of this visit is to strengthen the relationship and cooperation between the two countries, focusing on issues affecting the Horn of Africa, as reported by the Somali News Agency.

Foreign Minister Ahmed Macalin Fiqi and other members of the cabinet are among the delegation of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The trip to Eritrea comes at a time of conflict in Somalia, as the meeting of the National Consultative Council attended by the leaders of the federal government and those of the regional governments has faced political disputes.

The President of Jubbaland Ahmed Madobe recently left the meeting, saying that he demanded that Puntland and Khatumo be included in the talks. Madobe argued that the participation is important to ensure a reliable election in the whole country in 2026.
