The European Union has pledged nine million euros to Somalia, as the Minister of Finance of the Somali Government, Bihi Iman Cige, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the European Union to Somalia, Ms. Karin Johansson, and members of her office.
This meeting focused on the process of reforming and developing the country’s finances, and the European Union’s support for Somalia.
The Minister of Finance gave a report on the Government’s efforts to increase domestic revenue and financial efficiency, showing the Ministry’s commitment to bear fruit.
The Ambassador of the European Union warmly welcomed the Minister’s report and announced that the Nine Million Euros will be used to develop:-
1. Income development and promotion.
2. Federalization of the country’s financial system.
3. Promotion of Inclusive Education.
Bihi Iman Cige thanked the European Union for its support, pointing out that it is important for the government’s development plans, which will have a positive impact on the country’s economic reforms.
The European Union is one of the most important partners of the Somali Government, and they have played a major role in the Somalia debt relief program, which was concluded in late 2023.
