At the 68th Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held in Vienna, Somalia officially became a member of this organization.
The organization has been expanded to include 178 member countries.
The IAEA was established to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy by preventing its use for military purposes, including nuclear weapons of mass destruction.
The IAEA welcomed Somalia’s accession to the organization.
The members representing Somalia in this conference include Hamza Hadow, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Abdiqadir Hashi Arabey, the Director General of the Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals.
Somalia wants to participate in the exploitation of nuclear technology, through peaceful purposes.
