The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs in South West Somalia has strongly spoken about the issue of illegal checkpoints that are still visible on the roads of the country, which pose a great threat to the development, peace, and unity of the Somali nation.

The press release from the ministry said, “It is unfortunate that we still see important roads in our country as illegal checkpoints set up by special interest groups. This directly poses a serious threat to the development, peace, and unity of the Somali nation.”

The ministry pointed out that these checkpoints have caused insecurity, economic stagnation, social isolation, suspicion and widespread insecurity.

It also noted that it is strengthening its support to the security forces involved in clearing checkpoints, having already issued clear decisions against illegal checkpoints.

“We are saying loudly that it is necessary to fight and eliminate those who violate and oppose peace, day and night to the suffering of the poor people who travel on the roads of the South West Government of Somalia,” said the press release.

It was a few days ago when the South West forces destroyed illegal checkpoints in the Lower Shabelle region. The military forces were accused of using their weapons to defend the checkpoints in the region.
