The National Security Adviser to the President of Somalia, Macalin Hussein Mohamud, has again announced that the ATMIS operation will end at the end of 2024, and will be replaced by a new operation with a fixed period of time.

Professor Hussein Mohamud pointed out that the new operation at the specified time is decided by the federal government of Somalia, and its importance is how the federal government can distinguish the Al-Shabaab group.

The President’s adviser also noted that on the 12th of this month, the new mission plan will be submitted to the United Nations Security Council, to approve the new mission.

“The new operation of AUSSOM came at the request of DFS after the provision of ATMIS. This operation will be supported by the National Army for a short period of time, and the number of troops in the operation is limited,” said Presidential Adviser Hussein Macalin.

He also said the National Security Adviser that this new operation involving the participating governments is independent of the Somali government, and when the government is approved, it will enter into special agreements with the governments participating in the operation called AUSSOM.

Finally, the governments of Egypt and Djibouti, who were sitting at the African Union meeting that approved the new mission, said that they are interested in taking part in this mission, and there are also other governments that are interested in participating in the new mission.
