The government of Somaliland has given a strong response to the report from the G7 countries, which described Somaliland as a region of Somalia.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somaliland, was answered by the G7 report.
“The government and the people of the Republic of Somaliland are strongly angered by the language contained in the statement issued by the G7 Foreign Ministers, which described the Republic of Somaliland as a region of Somalia,” the statement said.
The statement said that the G7 report shows a lack of publicity and something that is unacceptable, “since the G7 governments are well aware of the history of the union of the two countries of Somaliland and Somalia that was not based on legality and has disappeared”. said in the text.
The text added that Somaliland is an independent nation with its own laws and constitution, which was passed through a democratic referendum.
“It is shocking to see the G7 countries that claim to be implementing democracy decide to ignore the reality of real democracy and stability in Somaliland,” it said.
Finally, the text says “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured the G7 countries that they are aware of the increasing aggression in Somalia and the efforts of its leadership to revive the old conflict between Somaliland and Somalia and a new one”.
