The Parliament of the Federal Government of Somalia in its two chambers was distributed today the final version of the proposal to amend the first four chapters of the interim Constitution.

The most important provisions of the amendments made to the constitution state that the country will have a President and a Prime Minister who will be appointed by the president and who can remove him from office.

The other provisions added to the constitution are that the term of office of the constitutional body of the government will be five years, the heads of the states will be called as leaders, and the country will have three parties.

The committee tasked with amending the constitution said that 7,470 citizens expressed their views on the new amendment, with a total of 213,838 Somali citizens.

Next Saturday, it was said that both chambers of the Parliament will vote for the approval of the amendment to the Constitution.

The amendment of the constitution is strongly opposed by the Puntland administration, the former leaders of Somalia and politicians who have held positions in the government, who have warned that President Hassan Sheikh will amend the constitution.
