The European Union has appointed a new Head of Mission for the European Union Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia).
Kęstutis Lančinskas, a native of Lithuania, has been appointed as the new Head of Mission in Somalia from 1 May 2024 to 31 December 2024.
He will replace Kauko Aaltomaa.
Kęstutis Lančinskas is currently the National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of Lithuania. Before assuming this position, he was the Deputy Minister of Interior, and was responsible for crisis management and border protection in the region.
The EUCAP mission in Somalia was launched in July 2012. The mission enhances the country’s civil law enforcement capacity with the support of the federal and regional governments, and supports the development of the law, enforcement of maritime criminal justice and providing policy advice. the Ministry of Internal Security of Somalia and the Somali Police.
EUCAP Somalia also supports the development of coast guard and maritime police operations in and around Somalia’s major ports, and provides additional assistance to the development of police forces.
