The Minister of Transport and Aviation of the Federal Government of Somalia, MP Fardowso Osman Igaal, has warned the Somaliland administration of its attempts to disrupt the security of planes flying in Somalia.

The Minister of Aviation said that the continuation of these measures may cause the Somali government to think that international flights landing in Hargeisa will be forced to go through Mogadishu.

The minister said that the government of Somalia has now moved to a new communication system, which replaced the previous communication system used by Mogadishu and Hargeisa. She said that all the planes have been ordered and are currently operating in the communication controlled from Mogadishu, the capital of the country.

She said that if the Somaliland administration has any complaints, they should talk to the federal government of Somalia, and return to the discussion table, to agree on any concerns they have.

The minister stated that the government of Somalia has already given permission to the Somaliland administration for international flights to land in Hargeisa.

Finally, the minister said that Somalia’s airspace is in safe hands, pointing out that there is no fear of Somaliland disrupting the smooth running of the country’s airspace.
