Former Prime Minister of Somalia, Abdi Farah Shirdon (Saacid), has presented five points that he suggests could serve as a foundation for saving and rebuilding the Third Republic of Somalia, at a time when the country faces political disputes and challenges related to state-building.

In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Abdi Farah Shirdon noted that the future of Somali governance could be built upon a constitution rooted in national consensus and agreement, genuine reconciliation, lasting security, national unity, and the establishment of state institutions capable of performing their duties efficiently and transparently.

The former Prime Minister emphasized the importance of basing the country’s constitution on an agreement mutually accepted by all Somalis. He further pointed out that genuine reconciliation is essential for restoring trust and strengthening the cohesion of Somali society.

He also highlighted that lasting security and national unity are vital pillars for the existence of a functional Somali state, while stressing that government institutions must possess the necessary capacity and independence to carry out their mandates. Abdi Farah Shirdon stated that these five points collectively form the foundation for a functional Somali government.

This comes at a time when Somalia is experiencing political debates concerning the electoral process, constitutional amendments, and the relationship between the federal government and opposition politicians.
