The governments of Somalia and China have signed an agreement allowing Somali fishery products to be exported to Chinese markets duty-free, according to the Somali Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy.

The agreement was signed in Mogadishu by the Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Ahmed Hassan Aden, and the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu.

The ministry said this is the first time that Somali fishery products have officially gained access to the Chinese market by benefiting from duty-free access, which is expected to increase competitiveness and export opportunities for Somali fishermen and traders.

Minister Ahmed Hassan Aden said the agreement will strengthen economic ties between Somalia and China, and will create new investment and cooperation opportunities in the fisheries sector.

The Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu, also said the agreement will facilitate trade between the two countries, and promote economic cooperation and trade exchanges.

The Ministry of Fisheries described this agreement as a step to boost the export of Somali products, support the development of the blue economy and create job opportunities.
