Pakistan and Somalia discuss cooperation and strengthening human rights.

The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development of the Federal Government of Somalia, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, met in Islamabad with the Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Rabiya Javeri Agha, where the two sides discussed strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of human rights.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development, the meeting focused on the development, protection and promotion of human rights, while also exchanging experiences on the role of independent human rights institutions, their capacity building and technical cooperation between Somalia and Pakistan.

The Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan briefed the minister on the progress made by their commission in the process of obtaining “A” accreditation, an international standard given to independent human rights commissions that meet international standards related to independence, protection and promotion of human rights.

She also said that Pakistan is ready to support Somalia through training, workshops and experience-sharing to strengthen the recently completed Somali Independent Human Rights Commission.

For her part, Minister Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi thanked Pakistan for its support and commitment to Somalia, saying that the Somali government will benefit from the experience and working methods of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan to strengthen national institutions responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights.
