Puntland’s Minister of Education, Fuad Abshir Ahmed (Adeer), has accused the federal government of Somalia of obstructing efforts to strengthen cooperation in education and the support Puntland receives from the international community and development agencies.

The Minister of Education said that for more than a year, Puntland has been seeking cooperation and understanding with the Federal Ministry of Education to improve education administration and management, but it has not been possible to reach an agreement on these issues.

Fu’aad Abshir Ahmed noted that improving education and ensuring the right to education require cooperation between all levels of government, including the federal, state and local levels.

Adeer added that Puntland believes that education goals cannot be achieved without full cooperation between government institutions.

The Minister also indicated that for a long time they have refrained from publicly discussing existing differences, but now it has become necessary to highlight these issues.

He made this statement at the launch of the Certificate Examination for the 2025-2026 school year, which was sat by more than 25,000 students in the 4th grade of secondary schools and the 8th grade of middle schools.
