Reports from Garacad area of Mudug region indicate that a clash that took place this morning has resulted in the death and injury of members of the Puntland security forces.
Local sources said that the Commander of the Jariiban district station, Abdullahi Abdi Elmi “Guray Dusaaye” (Booyaax), was injured in the clash, although his medical condition has not yet been officially clarified.
Meanwhile, the death of the late Asad Arab, a soldier from the Puntland presidential army, who died in the clash that took place this morning in Garacad area, has been confirmed.
The pirates who were said to have been responsible for the clash have fled the scene.
Further details about the exact cause of the clash and the total casualties are still awaited, as security officials have not yet commented on the incident.
This news comes at a time when the Puntland administration was planning to attack the pirates who are in possession of three merchant ships.
According to the information we received, Puntland has refused to pay a ransom to the pirates holding the hostages, and instead has used force.
