The Somali Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has officially announced the arrival of the state-of-the-art oil drilling vessel “Çağrı Bey”, which has already arrived in Somali waters, marking a major step towards the development of the country’s natural resources.

According to the Ministry, the vessel “Çağrı Bey” is set to be officially welcomed to the Port of Mogadishu on Friday, April 10, in an event that will be attended by senior government officials, experts, and other key stakeholders.

“The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Federal Republic of Somalia welcomes the arrival of the oil drilling vessel “Çağrı Bey. The Çağrı Bey has officially arrived in Somali waters, as part of the Federal Government of Somalia’s efforts to develop the country’s oil resources,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Turkish-owned vessel is part of a broader partnership between the Federal Government of Somalia and international companies, with the aim of accelerating the long-awaited exploration and production of offshore oil.

The “Çağrı Bey” vessel arrived in Somalia after a long-running plan that included seismic surveys to identify potential oil fields, technical and environmental assessments to ensure that drilling activities do not harm the marine environment, and legal and investment agreements reached between the Somali government and the companies involved.

After the official welcome, which is expected to Upon its arrival at the Port of Mogadishu on the 10th of this month, the ship will begin drilling operations directly, using modern technology that complies with international standards for safety and environmental protection.

The production of oil in Somalia is expected to boost the country’s economy, create large job opportunities, reduce dependence on foreign aid, and enhance economic infrastructure such as ports and industries.

The Ministry of Petroleum also assured that all operations will be carried out in accordance with the country’s laws, with special priority given to environmental protection and the general interest of the Somali people.
