The European Union has expressed its deep concern over the deteriorating situation in the South West Federal Administrative Region of Somalia, amid rising political and security tensions.

The EU Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, said that the EU is closely following the situation and is concerned by the developments.

She stressed that constructive dialogue is essential at this time to find a solution to the existing disputes.

“Constructive dialogue is essential at this time; mediation efforts must be welcomed and given the opportunity to bear fruit,” said Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro.

The EU also called on all parties involved in the conflict to show patience and responsibility, and to refrain from any actions that could lead to further conflict and further destabilize the situation.

This statement comes at a time when there are fears that the conflicts in the Southwest could escalate into violence if a political solution is not reached quickly.
