The Vice President of Galmudug, Ali Dahir Iid, said that Galmudug is ready to play a role in resolving the crisis between the Federal Government of Somalia and the South West State Administration.
Ali Dahir Iid said that Galmudug is “laying the groundwork” for both sides to return to dialogue and consensus, stressing that political disputes pose a threat to the stability and development of the country.
“Once again, I call on Galmudug to be ready to resolve the ongoing issues in Mogadishu and Baidoa,” the Vice President said.
He added that Somalia is currently going through a period that requires maintaining unity and peace, and that there is no need for anything that could rekindle political divisions.
The Vice President of Galmudug also called on scholars, traditional elders and politicians to play an active role in resolving the crisis and bring both sides back to the negotiating table.
“Such conflicts are what destroyed the Somali statehood. If they continue, they could undermine the peace, prosperity and progress that is underway today,” he said.
Ali Dahir Iid welcomed the recent call by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to be ready for peace and dialogue, and also called on the President of South West, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (Laftagareen), to return to the negotiating table.
He said that a lasting solution cannot be achieved through violence and oppression, but there is a need to collectively discuss the issues that are in dispute.
“I believe that coming together for a dialogue and discussing the issues that are in dispute is the only way to reach a solution,” he said.
The Galmudug Vice President finally noted that today there is no one from outside to hold meetings and reconciliation for Somalia, and therefore it is necessary for Somalis to protect their statehood, unity and peace.
