The Somali Future Council strongly condemned the use of force against Bajaj drivers who were peacefully expressing their grievances, as well as the arrests of some of the drivers and journalists covering the protest.

In a press statement, the council said that Bajaj drivers are creative workers who contribute to the country’s economy and play an important role in the country’s economy.

The council noted that it is unacceptable that young people who are creating jobs are suppressed through intimidation, arrest or force.

The council also noted that peaceful protests and the expression of opinions are fundamental rights guaranteed by any system based on the rule of law and democratic principles.

It warned that the suppression of these rights could fuel frustration and anger among young people who are facing economic and social challenges.

The Somali Future Council expressed its support for the drivers, encouraging them to express their grievances peacefully and responsibly, and to demand their rights through legal channels.

Finally, the council called on security agencies and government authorities to immediately release the Bajaj drivers detained at the Hodan district police station, and to fully restore their freedom.
