According to Egyptian media, the telephone conversation took place between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty and his US counterpart Marco Rubio, which focused on Somalia and stability in the Horn of Africa.
The Egyptian minister stressed his government’s support for preserving Somalia’s sovereignty and stability, categorically rejecting any claim to recognition of Somaliland by Israel, which he described as a violation of international law and a threat to stability in the Red Sea.
Egypt also called for strengthening political cooperation and diplomatic efforts in the region to prevent armed conflicts in Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
The Egyptian minister reiterated that international support is needed to preserve the country’s unity, develop institutions, and protect the Somali people.
For his part, Marco Rubio praised Egypt’s role in stabilizing the region, especially its efforts to support the Somali government and ease humanitarian issues that have plagued the Somali people in difficult circumstances.
The ministers agreed to continue close cooperation between the two countries to address urgent challenges in the region, particularly Somalia and stability in the Horn of Africa.
