The Somali Federal Government’s Cabinet held its regular meeting today, which focused on the country’s security situation, drought relief, operations by the Somali National Army in areas still under terrorist control, and plans to modernize the governance system.
The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamsa Abdi Barre, presented reports on the achievements of the armed forces in recent operations to liberate former areas.
The Cabinet also approved international agreements and regulations related to diplomatic cooperation, health, travel, and security. The agreements approved include a memorandum of understanding between Somalia and Pakistan on the exemption of diplomatic passports, another agreement between Somalia and Russia to strengthen health cooperation, and an agreement on political consultations between Somalia and Spain.
Other international agreements were also ratified, including the Convention on the Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic, the United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Drugs, and an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency on the prevention of nuclear proliferation.
Meanwhile, the Council of Ministers approved the Unified Performance Management Policy for Government Agencies, which aims to strengthen accountability and improve the services provided by the government to the public.
Finally, the Council of Ministers approved by a majority vote the promotion of two officials, Aden Isaaq Ali and Abdifatah Sheikh Ahmed Abdimannaan, to the rank of ambassador.
These steps are part of the Federal Government of Somalia’s efforts to strengthen international relations, reform government institutions, and improve social services.
