Somalia has addressed the Middle East emergency during a special meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

Somalia, speaking on behalf of the three countries known as the A3, namely the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia and Somalia, condemned the US and Israeli attacks inside Iran and Tehran’s subsequent response as a dangerous escalation of hostilities, which threatens regional and international peace.

In an official statement, Somalia and the two countries warned that the situation could escalate into violence and retaliation that could lead to widespread instability.

They also condemned the missile and drone attacks allegedly carried out by Iran on the sovereign territories of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which caused damage.

They reiterated that all United Nations Member States have the obligation to respect international law and the Charter of the United Nations, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of another State.

Somalia and the two other African countries called for an immediate de-escalation of the situation and the maintenance of peace and stability, stressing their continued commitment to upholding the fundamental principles of international law and peaceful coexistence among nations.
