The Federal Government of Somalia, represented by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar, has received renewed political support and commitments to strengthen bilateral cooperation from Saudi Arabia.
The strategic meeting between Minister Ali Mohamed Omar and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Waleed Al Khareyji, took place in Jeddah, on the sidelines of the emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The OIC meeting was held at the level of Foreign Ministers to prepare a unified and decisive response to the difficult situation in the Palestinian territories and the illegal decisions taken by Israel.
During the discussions, the two ministers aligned their national positions on regional security, stressing the importance of the Islamic organization working together to prevent violations of international law and protect the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.
The meeting also served as an important platform to strengthen security and economic cooperation between Mogadishu and Riyadh. The Saudi Deputy Minister clearly affirmed the Kingdom’s strong support for the political independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia.
The meeting also facilitated further cooperation on key domestic services, with both sides agreeing to strengthen their institutional coordination mechanisms, and build on recently signed security and maritime agreements.
