The Federal Government of Somalia has flown two youths injured in the Boorama violence late last month, where 19 people were killed and others injured in clashes between security forces and youth protesters, to Turkey for medical treatment.
The Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of the Federal Government of Somalia, MP Ayuub Ismail Yusuf, has helped ensure that the two youths receive medical care abroad.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Minister and everyone involved in this work, and our leader, Ugaas Abdirashid Ugaas Rooble Ugaas Doodi. We also wish him well, and may God have mercy on him,” one of the youths told the media.
The Boorama violence that lasted for days in December resulted in the deaths and injuries of many youths, after the people of Boorama protested against the Xeer Ise book event that the Somaliland government had approved to be held in Boorama.
Somaliland forces have been accused of using live ammunition against unarmed youths who were demonstrating, and the Somaliland government has appointed a committee to investigate what happened in the town of Boorama.
The Somaliland government also said it had paid compensation to those who died in the violence, and also said it had paid for the treatment of the injured, some of whom were taken to Ethiopia.
