Members of the Somali Federal Parliament have publicly accused the Federal Government of Somalia of being responsible for the heavy fighting that has taken place over the past two days in Baidoa, the capital of Bay region.
The lawmakers said the violence was the result of actions taken by the federal government, underlining that the FGS bears full responsibility for any losses resulting from the fighting.
Senator Adan Abdinasir said they have information that shows the federal government was aware of what was happening in Baidoa, and that government forces were being mobilized at the house of the FGS Minister of Animal Husbandry, Hassan Eelaay, where most of the fighting took place.
The senator added that for the past two months they have been advising the forces, demanding that they not get involved in anything that could lead to instability.
Other speakers noted that there is currently a humanitarian crisis in the Southwest, and it is important to provide immediate assistance to the people, rather than starting a war. They also said that members of the federal government were behind what happened in Baidoa, and they strongly condemn these actions.
The MPs sent their condolences to the families of those who died in the fighting, wishing a speedy recovery to those who were injured.
Meanwhile, the MPs elected from the Southwest regions once again affirmed their support for the President of the Southwest, Abdiasis Laftagareen, and the Southwest administration, indicating that they are politically aligned with the leadership of that administration.
Over the past two days, heavy fighting has taken place in Baidoa, which the Southwest Administration said was ultimately driven out of the city by groups they described as armed bandits who were causing instability in Baidoa.
