The Darood traditional community, which held a large meeting in Las Anod, supported the Somali government’s decision to cancel all agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), accusing it of violating the unity, independence and solidarity of the Somali nation.
The statement came from the traditional community, which includes kings, nobles, intellectuals, chiefs and elders, who attended the inauguration ceremony of the President of the North-East Regional State, Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye).
The community said that the Federal Government’s decision is in line with the national interest and is necessary to protect the country’s independence, accusing the UAE of direct interference in Somalia’s internal affairs, especially politics, security and national unity.
They specifically condemned the UAE’s role in supporting what they described as Israel’s “false recognition” of the Northwest regions of Somalia (Somaliland), saying that this is in direct violation of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia and poses a threat to the unity of the country.
The Darood Cultural Council noted that the UAE’s intervention could fuel political divisions, insecurity, and economic instability, which they said also creates opportunities for terrorist groups to exploit the current crisis.
The statement also stated that the Federal Government and the state governments should jointly protect the independence, unity, and nationhood of Somalia, warning that internal political differences could harm the unity of the nation.
The Council finally called on the heads of state that have not yet spoken openly about the unity of the country to take a clear stance on protecting the unity of Somalia.
