The Somali Police Force has arrested 11 suspects, all of whom are soldiers, who were caught illegally carrying weapons in the center of Mogadishu.

The arrests of these soldiers came after security operations carried out by the forces in parts of the capital’s districts to prevent illegal weapons from being carried in the city.

A statement from the Banadir Regional Police Command stated that the arrested soldiers violated the orders issued by the security agencies, which clearly stated that no off-duty soldier should be seen walking around the capital with a weapon of their own accord.

The statement from the Somali Police stated that this action is part of efforts to strengthen public security and control any act that could endanger the safety of the people living in the capital.

“The 11 suspects who were arrested are currently in the custody of the police, and are set to be referred to the relevant court to comply with the law and take appropriate measures,” said a statement from the Banadir Regional Police Command.

The 11 soldiers who were arrested in the operation are finally arriving, as the Somali Police Force has already issued security orders prohibiting off-duty soldiers from carrying any weapons in the capital city of Mogadishu. The security forces are also working to ensure security for the local council elections, which are expected to take place in Mogadishu on the 25th of this month, which falls on Thursday.
