The Federal Parliament has passed its first reading of the new Somali Police Act.

The members of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia today concluded the debate on the first reading of the Somali Police Force Bill, after a meeting held at the House of the People headquarters in Mogadishu.

The meeting, which was the 7th session, its 21st meeting, was chaired by the Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), and was accompanied by the Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow.

The agenda of the meeting focused on completing the debate on the first reading of the bill, with many members of parliament expressing their views on the provisions in the bill, discussing the general principles and the importance of this law for the security system of the country, as it was undergoing its first reading in accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the House of the People.

The Speaker of the House of the People, who closed the meeting, directed the Committee on Internal Affairs and Security to prepare the second reading of the bill, so that it could be returned to the House for further debate.

Meanwhile, members of the House of People were also presented with other important legislative proposals, including the Bill for the Establishment of the Somali Meteorological and Climate Service,The Bill for the Establishment of the National Environmental Management Authority, the Bill for the Prohibition of Female Reproductive Mutilation, and the Tobacco Control Convention, which are expected to be debated by the parliament in the upcoming sessions.
