The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued an official warning letter urging the strengthening of the facilitation of the election campaign and the smooth collection of Voter Cards, especially in the districts of the Banadir region.
The commission called on the District Administrations to ensure a free environment for political organizations to conduct their election campaigns and obtain Voter Cards.
The Commission’s statement specifically mentioned several legal guidelines, including that candidates and political organizations are allowed to campaign legally and without political interference.
The District Administrations were also informed that any burden that could disrupt the work of election workers or create an insecure environment that could lead to distrust in the community would not be acceptable.
The commission underlined that legitimate complaints submitted by organizations would be considered, but that anything that would disrupt the transparency and cooperation of the election process would not be tolerated.
In addition, district administrations have been informed that their job is to facilitate, and cannot be an obstacle to electoral activities.
Finally, the Committee stated that they have confidence in the District Administrations of Banadir Region, expressing hope that full cooperation will be ensured to ensure that citizens receive electoral services in an equal, transparent, secure, and legal manner.
