The Federal Government of Germany has announced that it has fully recognized the Diplomatic Passport of the Federal Republic of Somalia, a move that has been warmly welcomed by the Somali government.

The decision was published in the Federal Gazette (Bundesanzeiger) on 1 December 2025. The new recognition removes previous restrictions on the entry of Somali diplomats into Germany, and they will now be officially accepted as Diplomatic passports when traveling to Somalia, without the need for additional checks or special status documents.

The Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency welcomed the decision, describing it as a step that demonstrates the positive changes that Somalia is making in terms of security of travel documents, modernization of immigration services and rebuilding international relations.

According to a press release issued by the agency, the German recognition is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries, and reflects the growing trust that countries around the world have in the passport system and immigration services in Somalia.

The decision means that the Somali Diplomatic Passport will be officially recognized for entry and residence in Germany, removing the previous restriction that required Somali diplomats to obtain special permission before leaving the country, according to a press release from the Agency.

The move is seen as a key step towards greater cooperation between Somalia and Germany, particularly in foreign affairs, the development of public services, and support for the reconstruction of government institutions.
