Former Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, has issued a press release addressing the humanitarian situation resulting from the drought in the country, which has now affected nearly five million people.
Farmaajo said that these people are those who have not received adequate assistance, and their situation has been worsening for the past two years.
The former president sent a strong appeal to the Somali people, especially scholars and businessmen, asking them to extend their support to the affected people, as international aid has decreased and does not meet the needs of those in urgent need of assistance.
Farmaajo also called on the Somali diaspora and the leaders of the Federal Government and the states, urging them to respond to the difficult situation together.
He said he hopes that the international community will accelerate the relief effort, to reach the vulnerable families living in the regions severely affected by the drought.
