The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) conducted a planned operation last night in Omar Beere area of Lower Shabelle region.
The operation targeted the Al-Shabaab leader responsible for planning and preparing for bombings in the region, according to a press release from NISA.
As confirmed in the NISA press release, the slain leader, Hassan Sidow Hussein, had been one of the group’s most dangerous figures for years, especially those who organized landmine explosions targeting civilians and vehicles on important roads.
He also played a prominent role in directing Al-Shabaab attacks in Lower Shabelle region.
The National Intelligence and Security Agency, which had been tracking the leader for a long time, finally succeeded in eliminating Hassan Sidow Hussein and three of his bodyguards while he was inside Omar Beere area.
NISA said the operation is part of the ongoing efforts of the federal government of Somalia to ensure public security, with a focus on eliminating Al-Shabaab members who are still hiding in parts of the region.
The agency noted that they will continue operations to hunt down the group’s remnants to reduce the threat they pose to society.
