Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has welcomed the talks between Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the Somali Salvation Forum, which is opposed to the Federal Government.

In a press release, he revealed that the meeting between some of the leaders of the Somali opposition and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud could be a good start towards resolving political differences on issues of destiny.

He noted that issues of destiny come first in the country’s constitution, inclusive politics and the country’s electoral process, and welcomed that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has accepted to put the disputed issues of destiny in the middle.

“We also underline once again and call for the Interim Constitution agreed upon by the Somali people in 2012 to be the pillar that holds the country together, therefore, in any dialogue that takes place, it is imperative that the Constitution be the basis for resolving issues of destiny,” Farmaajo said in a statement.

Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has called on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to assume his constitutional role in maintaining the unity and integrity of the country.

Finally, Farmaajo suggested that it is imperative that the President take responsibility for the participation of the Puntland and Jubaland regional states in the conference and directly invite them to the conference scheduled for July 3, which is important for the country to have an inclusive political direction.
