The Somali Salvation Forum, which is united by the majority of members of the opposition to the federal government, has issued a press release expressing strong concerns about the process of selecting members of the Independent Human Rights Commission.

The statement issued by the Salvation Forum stated that the process of selecting the commission is incorrect, and that the federal government is directly interfering in the process of selecting the commission.

The press release issued by the Salvation Forum called on the federal government to immediately suspend the process of selecting the Independent Human Rights Commission.

“The presidency and the government should withdraw from the selection of the Commission, and leave their selection in accordance with Law No. 16 mentioned above. Equal opportunities should be given to Somali citizens who want to be part of the Commission to serve their people and country, and to avoid interference from politicians,” the press release issued by the Salvation Forum said.

The Somali Rescue Forum has requested that the regional governments of the country submit one member to the Minister of Human Rights, in consultation with Civil Society Organizations in each regional government.
