Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has strongly criticized the process of managing the Consultation Forum called by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on June 1, the invitees and the general agenda outlined.
Farmaajo said that the current process by which the President is acting shows that he is still avoiding seriously facing the political situation in the country and the gravity of the fateful issues that the differences are facing.
“As we have repeatedly recommended, issues that require political agreement that affect the fate of the Somali people and the country’s governance system are a collective responsibility that must be discussed at all levels, both federal and state, in order to preserve the unity of the country and the solidarity of the Somali people. However, it is clear that the President has not yet realized this, and is pursuing a policy based on the principle that no one will be stopped,” Farmaajo said in a statement.
Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has accused President Hassan Sheikh of heading down a path that will plunge the country into a new crisis, and he stressed that this is evidence of the President’s invitation process, which is not responsive to the core issues of the current conflict, the most important of which are constitutional amendments and electoral issues.
Farmaajo revealed that the Somali President is now planning to make an illegal first amendment to the 11 chapters that survived the constitution that was agreed upon.
“The invitation to the Consultative Forum is also accompanied by the implementation of an unconstitutional electoral process based on the laws and electoral commissions that the President established, and it is worth noting how Somali citizens are being forced into compulsory registration and violating the fundamental rights of citizens,” Farmaajo said again.
Finally, Farmaajo called for a solution to political differences and to avoid damage to the unity of the country, for the President to seriously address the current situation, return to the Constitution that was agreed upon and elected, and for the consultative forum and fateful decisions to be inclusive and involve all levels of government.
