Nearly two million Muslims from around the world have gathered at Mount Arafat today to perform one of the main pillars of the Hajj pilgrimage.
The pilgrims set off early this morning from the Mina area, 10 km from Mount Arafat, located between the holy cities of Mecca and Ta’if.
The pilgrims will stand on the Mount of Arafat from the Zuhr prayer until sunset today, where they will pray to Allah and make heartfelt supplications, as scholars have described this day of Arafat as a day of special hope for forgiveness and repentance.
Scholars have also said that the Day of Arafat is the day when Allah frees the most people from Hell, which means that this day is different from all other days, and it is a day of precious opportunity for every Muslim, whether he is on the pilgrimage or at home.
Finally, the Saudi government has sent regular warnings to this year’s pilgrims, regarding the dangers of the country’s extremely hot weather, as last year more than a thousand pilgrims died due to heatstroke.
