The Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan, who held a press conference at the commission’s headquarters, announced an additional extension to the voter registration period for the local councils in the districts of the Banadir region.
The Chairman announced that the voter registration campaign in the districts of the Banadir region has been extended by one month or 30 days, which he described as an additional opportunity to provide the public who have not yet registered.
“We have extended the campaign for the registration of the people living in the districts of the Banadir region by one month. This extension came after the registration did not start immediately in the districts of Mogadishu. We realized that the public should be given another opportunity to register,” said Chairman Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan.
The Chairman of the National Electoral Commission also announced that they have officially registered about 30 parties that will participate in the national elections.
“We have confirmed that so far 30 political organizations have registered, which are ready to participate in the expected elections,” said the chairman of the electoral commission.
Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan also announced that voter registration will soon begin in the regions of Hirshabelle, Southwest, Galmudug, SSC Khaatumo and Gedo region under Jubbaland.
“We will soon deliver the equipment to the regional administration centers of Hirshabelle, Southwest, Galmudug, and Gedo regions of Jubbaland, where voter registration for local councils will begin,” said the chairman of the electoral commission, Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan.
However, this extension is coming, as in recent weeks, the campaign to register voters for local councils in most districts of the Banadir region has been underway directly in Mogadishu.
