Somali Defense Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi held a fruitful meeting in Mogadishu with the US Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley, to discuss the long-standing security cooperation between Somalia and the US and to strengthen the deep partnership between the two sides.
The Minister thanked the US Ambassador to Somalia for the US support in operations against the terrorist groups ISIS and Al-Shabaab.
“I am pleased to meet with Amb. Riley. The US remains a security partner supporting Somalia. We greatly appreciate their continued support and look forward to enhancing our defense ties as we work together to fight against Al-Shabaab and ISIS,” Minister Fiqi said in a post on his X website.
On his first day in office, Defense Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi pledged to strengthen security cooperation with Somalia’s partners.
The US is an important partner of Somalia and provides a wide range of assistance, including training, logistics, and air support.
