The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, who addressed the participants of the Troop Contributing Countries (TCC), stressed that Somalia still needs the support of the African Union countries.
Chairperson Mahmoud acknowledged that the Somali Government has made progress in its fight against Al Shabaab with the support of peacekeepers in Somalia, noting that the new AUSSOM mission is crucial to sustaining these achievements.
“Despite facing financial challenges, the African Union is committed to mobilizing all necessary resources to operate the new Mission. A collaborative effort is essential to strengthen this mission,” said the Chairperson of the African Union.
He also noted in his speech that stability in Somalia is not only beneficial for the Horn of Africa but also for international peace.
The Chairperson commended the work of the African Union and the Somali federal government in their efforts to build a Somali state.
