The Somali Ministry of Information has said that more than 40 Al-Shabaab members were killed in a planned operation in the Wargaadhi and Labigoley areas of the Middle Shabelle region.
A press release from the ministry revealed that the operation came after Al-Shabaab attempted a deadly attack on the Wargaadhi area, a key command post for the group’s ongoing cyber operations in the central regions.
“The armed forces and local heroes who were on full alert bravely repelled the attack, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy, killing at least 22 members of the Khawarij,” the statement from the Somali Ministry of Information said.
The Ministry also provided details of an operation carried out by the Government Forces in the Labi Gooley area, approximately 13 km from Wargaadhi to the northwest. The operation took place while Al Shabaab was regrouping, but the forces killed more than 20 members of the group.
The situation in Wargaadhi is currently stable, and verification and counting of losses inflicted on Al Shabaab are still ongoing, and the Ministry noted that it will soon share with the Somali people the official losses inflicted on Al Shabaab in Wargaadhi today.
