An Ethiopian Consulate official in Garowe, the capital of Puntland, was killed last night in Las Anod.
Farah Aydiid Jama (Bariiis), a security expert stationed in Garowe, Ethiopia, was found dead in the Goojaadde Valley in Las Anod.
Reports say that he was taken from his house in Las Anod last night, shot and tortured before being killed and thrown into the Goojaadde Valley.
The SSC Khaatumo administration, Puntland, and the Consulate he belonged to have not yet commented on the killing of this official, who was in charge of assisting Ethiopian migrants.
Las Anod was known for the killing of officials during the time of Somaliland, with many Somaliland government officials being killed in the city. Most of the victims have not been identified.
The killings of Somaliland officials, most of whom were from the Sool region, sparked a popular uprising that eventually led to the expulsion of Somaliland from the city, with the establishment of the new SSC Khaatumo administration.
Locals blamed the killings on the Somaliland government, although most of those killed were government officials. Somaliland, on the other hand, blamed the killings on terrorist groups seeking to pit Somaliland against the people of Lascaanood.
