The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has awarded three political organizations with Certificates of Organization.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan, said that there are five organizations that have met the criteria set by the Commission for Somali organizations and that these five organizations will be the ones that will participate in the local council elections that will take place in June this year.

The organizations that have received the Certificate of Association are the Somali People’s Organization (MDD), headed by Ali Mohamed Nuuh Timajilic, the Socod Organization, headed by Mohamed Moalim Hassan, and the Tawfiq Reconciliation and Development Organization, headed by Sheikh Shakir Moalim Hassan. All the leaders of the organizations said that they are determined to lead the Somali people in the One Person One Vote Election and will work with the Commission and the Government while adhering to the laws of the country.

Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan announced that these organizations will now begin to register their supporters in order to receive the most votes in the Local Council Election, and he emphasized that registration is free.

Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan noted that the Electoral Commission is encouraging registered organizations and calling on others on the road to register, currently the politics of Somalia is between the heads of the government and the registered organizations.

“The politics of Somalia is between the 5 registered organizations and they are the rightful stakeholders in politics and they are participating in the local council elections”, he said at a press conference in Mogadishu.

Finally, the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan, announced that he is calling on the people to elect their leaders so that they can hold them accountable, and he indicated that they will not welcome anyone who does not share the will of the people.
