Former Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Rooble said he welcomed the peace conference called by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, describing it as a step forward for the unity of Somalia.
“I hope that this conference will yield results that benefit the country and the people. I call on government leaders and other political stakeholders to utilize this opportunity honestly, always prioritizing the common good over private interests,” Rooble said in a post on his Facebook page.
On the other hand, those who welcomed the peace conference include former Somali Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdoon, who praised the Somali President’s move to consult with political stakeholders on the country’s situation.
“I welcome the responsible role played by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who has paved the way for bringing together the country’s administrations, politicians, and intellectuals.” He said in a post on his Facebook page.
Shirdoon announced that special priority should be given to ensuring that this expanded platform serves as a platform for deliberation on all matters of the country’s destiny, such as the fight against Al-Shabaab, inclusive politics, consideration for regional states that lack control over the country, constitutional issues, and the process of managing elections.
