The new leader of Galmudug, Libaan Hassan, has officially assumed leadership of the Galmudug administration following a handover ceremony held at the Galmudug Presidential Palace. He pledged to prioritize security, the development of government institutions, and the advancement of social reconciliation.

Libaan Hassan took over the position from the former President of Galmudug, Ahmed Abdi Kariye—an event he described as a significant step for democracy, the transition of leadership, and the continuity of public institutions.

In a speech delivered during the ceremony, the new leader thanked the former president for his tenure and his contributions to the development of Galmudug. He also commended his efforts in strengthening administrative institutions, fostering political stability, and enhancing overall governance.

“I commend the effort and tireless work he dedicated to building government institutions and promoting stability,” said Libaan Hassan, while encouraging the former president to remain a key supporter of Galmudug’s progress and state-building initiatives. The new leader also thanked the people of Galmudug for the trust they placed in him, noting that he was elected through a direct vote cast by the citizens. He stated that he is fully aware of the heavy responsibility entrusted to him.

Liban Hassan indicated that security will be the top priority for his administration, pledging to intensify military operations against the Al-Shabaab group.
