A statement issued by the Somali Police Force said that a traffic police officer who was known to have killed a motorcycle rider at the Four Gardens intersection in Mogadishu has been arrested.
The killing, which occurred yesterday, led to violence by local youth and motorcycle riders who even burned a police vehicle in anger over the killing of the young biker.
Somali Police Spokesperson Abdifitax Hassan Adam said that the perpetrator of the murder will be arrested and brought to justice, noting that it is unacceptable for citizens to be violated.
”The suspect in the murder, who was a member of the traffic police, has been arrested and is being held by the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID). It will not be acceptable to destroy public property. The person who committed the crime is responsible for the crime,” the Somali Police Spokesperson said.
Witnesses said that the soldier and the motorcycle driver argued and the soldier pulled out a pistol and killed the motorcycle driver.
This type of incident is not new to the people of Mogadishu and there have been several similar incidents where a soldier and a motorcycle driver argued and ended up killing the motorcycle driver.
