The US Embassy in Somalia has denied reports that the embassy has begun evacuating its key staff from Mogadishu.
Unofficial reports circulating on social media suggested that the security situation in the capital was deteriorating, prompting the US to withdraw key staff.
However, the embassy issued a brief statement denying the reports, stating that the embassy was operating normally.
The US Embassy in Mogadishu recently issued a security alert, warning of potential attacks targeting multiple locations in Mogadishu, including the capital’s Aden Adde International Airport.
The embassy has suspended all staff travel until further notice. US citizens have also been barred from traveling to Mogadishu.
The embassy said that terrorist groups are actively planning bombings and attacks. It said the security situation in Somalia remains volatile.
