For the second day, all the shops in Somalia’s largest market known as Bakara Market in Mogadishu were closed.

The chairman of Bakara Market, Hassan Mire Dhiif, said that businesses in Bakara Market were closed for the second day due to intimidation by soldiers from the National Security Force.

“The Bakara market was closed due to threats and intimidation from security forces who threatened the businessmen on Thursday that they cannot open their business premises, and those who open their business will face serious consequences, and this led to the market being closed for the second day,” said the chairman of the Bakara market, Hassan Mire Dhiif.

He also said the chairman of the Bakara market in Mogadishu that the Ministry of Finance and Security is responsible for the closure of the businesses in the Bakara market.

“You can’t open a business if someone is threatened and now you will face serious problems. Why can he open his business? Every store was stopped on Thursday and told that you can’t open the business on Saturday. There is no order from us and the businesses are closed because of the threat of the soldiers.

Governor Hassan Mire pointed out that the traders in Bakara Market refused to pay the tax, but they are ready to pay, and he called on the Ministry of Finance to come up with a plan that the traders can satisfy.
