Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Ethiopia and Somalia early next year after brokering an agreement to end the ongoing crisis between the two countries, as he said in a brief statement posted on his blog.

“I will visit Ethiopia and Somalia in the first two months of the new year, 2025,” he wrote in a message about the agreement between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Ankara on December 11.

These two governments have agreed to end the conflict between them for almost a year after hours of talks moderated by Erdogan who described the agreement between the two countries as historic.

The conflict between the two countries began in January when landlocked Ethiopia signed an agreement with Somaliland to obtain coastal land and a military base.

Instead, Somaliland has said that Ethiopia will give it official recognition, although Addis Ababa has not yet confirmed it.

The Turkish government has been mediating between the two governments since July. There were two rounds of talks before the successful talks between the President of Somalia and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia. African Union, Washington and Brussels.
